EXPLORING RECIPROCITY IN GRANDPARENT-GRANDCHILDREN CARE: THE CASE OF MDLANKOMO LOCATION, LIBODE IN THE EASTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA

In South Africa, there appears to be a paradigm shift where the majority of country’s children are taken care by their grandparents. This article explores states reciprocity existing in grandparent-grandchildren Mdlankomo location, Libode Eastern Cape Africa. The study utilised qualitative approach explore perceptions grandparents on between them and grandchildren. Nine were interviewed. findings revealed that manifested love for grandchildren, who also reciprocated gesture; delinquent behaviours grandchildren exasperated grandparents; conflict ensued when suspected abuse children’s welfare grant researchers urge Department Social Development NGOs working domain strengthen programmes well-being older persons children.
